High-Speed Pursuit: Worcester Man Arrested After Two-State Chase in Stolen Car

A dramatic interstate pursuit involving a stolen vehicle came to a dramatic end late Monday night, as police from two states collaborated to apprehend a Worcester, Massachusetts man. The incident began when a state trooper observed a speeding Toyota Camry on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, around 11:45 p.m. The vehicle, reported stolen from Wilmington, Massachusetts, was traveling north at speeds exceeding 100 mph, exhibiting erratic lane control.
Attempts by law enforcement to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, prompting a high-speed chase that crossed into Maine. New Hampshire state troopers initially pursued the car, which exited onto a Kittery, Maine road. Kittery police then took over the pursuit, with New Hampshire officers providing backup.
The chase culminated on a dead-end street in York, Maine, where the driver of the stolen Toyota reversed course and collided with a New Hampshire State Police cruiser. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the crash.
The driver, identified as 42-year-old Steven Hebert of Worcester, was promptly arrested by authorities at the scene and taken into custody at the Kittery Police Department. He now faces multiple charges in both Maine and New Hampshire related to the pursuit and the stolen vehicle.
