Worcester Teen Arrested After Fleeing Police During Traffic Stop
Over the weekend, an 18-year-old man was apprehended in Worcester after attempting to evade police during a traffic stop, according to authorities on Monday.
The suspect, William Tchoubah, was taken into custody early Saturday morning on two outstanding warrants. He faces multiple charges, including possession of a large-capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID Card, improper storage of a firearm, breaking and entering at nighttime, and disturbing the peace, among others.
Tchoubah was previously wanted for armed assault with intent to murder and various firearm-related offenses linked to an earlier shooting and armed robbery on Esther Street.
The incident began around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when Worcester Police officers observed a speeding vehicle on Cambridge Street. After discovering the vehicle lacked a valid inspection sticker, they conducted a traffic stop on Harding Street.
During the stop, a man exited the vehicle’s backseat and fled, prompting a police chase. Officers noted the man was holding his waistband, indicative of carrying a firearm.
Additional officers were notified to assist in the search. The remaining occupants of the vehicle, two males, denied knowing the fleeing man and were released after a brief investigation.
Shortly thereafter, residents reported a man matching the suspect’s description running through their yards. Officers found Tchoubah hiding in a rear stairwell on Ashmont Street.
Concerned the suspect had discarded a firearm in a residential area, police continued their investigation, leading them to a home on Canton Street. With the homeowners’ consent, officers searched the property and found a Glock pistol concealed between some cement and a fence.
