WORCESTER — The Worcester NAACP issued a formal statement on Tuesday, February 10, addressing the recent criminal charges filed against four Massachusetts State Police members in connection with the death of Enrique Delgado-Garcia.

In the statement signed by President Fred Taylor, the organization acknowledged the arrests as a significant development in the case. The NAACP had previously called for an independent investigation into the 2024 death of Delgado-Garcia, a Worcester resident and former victim witness advocate who died following injuries sustained at the State Police Academy.

Support for Independent Review The organization stated that it is “encouraged” that an independent investigative process is underway. The statement highlighted the NAACP’s longstanding position that independent reviews are essential in cases involving law enforcement interactions to safeguard public trust.

“We recognize the arrests as a meaningful step forward,” the statement read. “Independent review helps safeguard the integrity of the process, reduces the potential for conflicts of interest, and reinforces public confidence in the pursuit of justice.”

Solidarity with the Family The release emphasized the organization’s continued support for the Delgado-Garcia family. Taylor noted that the family’s pursuit of answers has been central to the NAACP’s advocacy regarding the case.

“Our thoughts remain with the Delgado-Garcia family during this painful time,” Taylor wrote. “We understand and share the many concerns voiced by the Delgado-Garcia family. Their desire for answers is both justified and deeply human.”

The Worcester NAACP indicated it will continue to monitor the legal proceedings and advocate for transparency as the case moves through the court system.
