Worcester’s 2025 Trash and Recycling Calendar: What You Need to Know

Spread the love

As the holiday season comes to a close, Worcester residents are gearing up for a fresh start in 2025. The City of Worcester has just released the updated trash and recycling calendar, and it comes with a few important changes that will help keep the city clean and green all year long.

Holiday Schedule Adjustments

Worcester’s trash and recycling collections will be impacted by seven key holidays in 2025. If your scheduled collection day falls on a holiday, your trash and recycling will be delayed by one day, with all subsequent pickups for the week following suit. Here are the holidays that will cause delays:

  • New Year’s Day – Jan. 1
  • Memorial Day – May 26
  • Juneteenth – June 19
  • Independence Day – July 4
  • Labor Day – Sept. 1
  • Thanksgiving Day – Nov. 27
  • Christmas Day – Dec. 25

It’s important to note that some holidays will not affect trash collection, including:

  • MLK, Jr. Day – Jan. 20
  • Presidents’ Day – Feb. 17
  • Patriots’ Day – April 21
  • Columbus/Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Oct. 13
  • Veterans Day – Nov. 11

So, mark your calendars, adjust your schedules, and be aware of these important dates for the smoothest trash and recycling collection experience.

When to Set Out Your Curbside Items

To avoid any delays, make sure your trash and recyclables are set out between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Being prompt ensures your waste is collected as planned, even when there are delays due to holidays.

Christmas Tree Drop-off Sites

And for those with Christmas trees still lingering in your living rooms, don’t forget to drop them off at one of Worcester’s designated Christmas tree disposal sites. The sites will be open from Dec. 26, 2024 to Jan. 5, 2025, so there’s plenty of time to clean up after the festivities.

Here are the drop-off locations:

  • 1065 Millbury Street (next to the VFW Post)
  • 300 Chandler Street (across from Foley Stadium)
  • 299 Clark Street (near the East Mountain Street intersection)

Drop-off hours are as follows:

  • Monday – Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sundays (Millbury St. only): 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Note: These sites will be closed on New Year’s Day (Wed., Jan. 1, 2025), so plan accordingly.

Looking Ahead to a Clean 2025

Worcester’s trash and recycling program helps keep the city clean, sustainable, and safe. By staying on top of these dates and guidelines, residents can do their part in maintaining a tidy and environmentally-friendly city.
