The Worcester Majors and YWCA Central Massachusetts will host One Court. One Community., a free community basketball event, on Saturday, May 2, at the YWCA, 1 Salem Square in Worcester.
The event will mark the reopening of the YWCA’s renovated gymnasium and welcome the Worcester Majors to the space. According to event materials, doors will open at 12 p.m., with the community basketball game scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. A meet and greet with Worcester Majors players is scheduled from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
The event will include a community basketball game led by the Worcester Majors, followed by a post-game meet and greet and open court time for attendees of all ages and skill levels.
The partnership between the Worcester Majors and YWCA Central Massachusetts is also expected to support future youth engagement opportunities. According to the event announcement, the YWCA will serve as the official training and youth engagement venue for the Worcester Majors, with planned activities including clinics, mentorship programs, and community-focused initiatives.
Shaun Murphy, CEO of the Worcester Majors, said the event reflects the role basketball can play in bringing people together.
“This event truly embodies the spirit of coming together, on and off the court. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with the community and share our love for the game,” Murphy said in the announcement.
Murphy also said the partnership with YWCA Central Massachusetts is focused on youth empowerment.
“Our partnership with YWCA Central Massachusetts is rooted in a shared vision of using basketball to uplift and inspire the youth in Worcester,” Murphy said. “This event is a testament to our joint commitment to creating safe spaces and fostering community connections through sports.”
For Worcester families, the event offers a free opportunity to gather around sports, community connection, and youth engagement in a newly renovated gym space. Organizers note that sneakers are required on the court and light concessions will be available.
