Worcester Public Library to Receive 500 Chromebooks Through State Digital Equity Program

Worcester Public Library will host a public announcement event on Wednesday, April 29, after receiving 500 Chromebooks through the state’s Connected and Online Program.
According to the City of Worcester, the program is led by the Massachusetts Broadband Institute, a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. The city says the award is one of the largest granted to any library in Massachusetts.
The announcement event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Worcester Public Library, located at 3 Salem Square.
City officials said the event will also recognize eight Worcester-based organizations that are receiving devices to help expand access to technology across the city.
For Worcester residents, the announcement is relevant because access to reliable technology remains connected to education, employment, public services, and everyday communication. Public libraries and community organizations often play a key role in helping residents who may not have consistent access to devices, internet service, or digital tools.
The city said representatives from Worcester Public Library, the Massachusetts Broadband Institute, the City of Worcester, and guests are expected to attend the event.
Additional details about which Worcester-based organizations will receive devices were not included in the announcement.
