Parsons Dance to Perform at The Hanover Theatre in April

WORCESTER, Mass. — The contemporary dance company Parsons Dance is scheduled to perform at The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts on Thursday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m., bringing its internationally touring program of contemporary choreography to Worcester audiences.

Founded in 1985 by choreographer David Parsons and lighting designer Howell Binkley, Parsons Dance is based in New York City and has built a reputation for athletic ensemble work and contemporary choreography. The company has toured extensively across North America, Europe, Asia, and South America, presenting performances in hundreds of cities worldwide. Over the decades, the company’s repertory has grown to include more than 80 works created by Parsons and other choreographers.

David Parsons previously performed as a principal dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company before launching his own company. His choreographic style is known for blending elements of classical dance technique with modern movement and physically demanding choreography designed for a highly trained ensemble.

One of the company’s most recognized works is Caught, a solo originally choreographed by Parsons in 1982 in collaboration with Binkley. The piece uses precisely timed strobe lighting and repeated jumps to create the visual effect that the dancer appears suspended in the air. The work has remained a signature part of the company’s repertoire and is frequently included in touring performances.

According to information provided by the theatre, the Worcester program will feature a selection of works from the company’s repertory performed by members of the touring ensemble. Specific pieces included in the April performance have not yet been fully detailed in the theater’s public event listing.

Tickets for the performance are listed at approximately $51 to $81 depending on seat location. The Hanover Theatre notes that residents can purchase tickets online or directly through the box office.

Additional details about the performance, seating availability, and accessibility accommodations can be found on the theatre’s official website.
