Worcester Man’s Jail Sentence for Worcester Trial Court Shooting Incident: Details & Verdict

In a significant development pertaining to the February 2023 shooting incident outside the Worcester Trial Court, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early disclosed that James Freeman IV, a 32-year-old resident of Worcester, has been sentenced to a 9-to-11-year jail term. Freeman pleaded guilty to charges including armed assault with intent to murder and various firearms-related offenses.

The charges against Freeman encapsulate two counts of carrying a firearm without a license (3rd offense), assault with a dangerous weapon, firearm possession in commission of a felony, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

On the fateful day of February 2, 2023, Worcester law enforcement responded to reports of gunshots fired outside the Worcester Trial Court situated at 144 Main Street. Upon investigation, evidence at the scene pointed to Freeman’s involvement in the incident.

Freeman reportedly discharged multiple rounds at a moving vehicle on a busy section of Main Street, thankfully causing no injuries.

Six days post the event, Freeman was apprehended during a routine traffic stop. Subsequent police search of the vehicle he was driving led to the discovery of a firearm and ammunition, leading to his arrest.

The verdict, delivered by Judge Daniel Wrenn, sentenced Freeman to a 9-to-11-year incarceration term followed by a two-year probationary period upon release.

This case stands as a testament to law enforcement’s swift action and commitment to ensuring public safety in Worcester. The sentencing sends a strong message against violent offenses, reinforcing the consequences for such actions within the community.
