WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Public Schools has appointed Sean Rose as its new Chief of Access, Opportunity and Equity, a Cabinet-level position that will oversee district efforts to address opportunity and achievement gaps and strengthen access and inclusion across the school system.

Rose currently serves as president and CEO of Thrive Support and Advocacy, which supports youth with developmental disabilities and their families. According to Worcester Public Schools, he brings more than two decades of experience spanning education, human services, youth development, municipal government, trauma-informed care, and diversity, equity and inclusion work.

The district said Rose’s new role will include establishing and monitoring policies, practices and programs intended to support a culture of inclusion and belonging across Worcester Public Schools.

He will also lead efforts to narrow opportunity and achievement gaps, address racial disproportionality among student groups, and direct diversity and outreach initiatives, according to the district.

The position also includes oversight of the district’s Department of Family and Community Engagement. That work includes student and family advisory councils, outreach to community organizations and the Parent Information Center, which handles student enrollment.

Rose will also oversee recruitment initiatives, including the district’s Grow Your Own student-to-teacher pipeline program, as well as cross-departmental efforts involving culturally responsive practices and equity and discrimination compliance matters.

Superintendent Brian E. Allen said Rose’s experience working with young people, families, educators and community organizations will be an asset to the district.

“Sean brings leadership, community experience and a deep commitment to Worcester,” Allen said in the district’s announcement. “He understands that equity means ensuring every student is seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.”

Rose said he was honored to take on the position.

“I am deeply honored to serve the Worcester Public Schools and the city I love,” Rose said. “Every student deserves to know that they belong, that their voice matters and that their future is full of possibility.”

Rose also said the work will involve how students and families experience the school system, including how schools welcome families, establish expectations and build relationships.

The district said Rose has deep roots in Worcester through public service and volunteer work. His previous leadership experience also includes organizations providing trauma-informed services, including the Justice Resource Institute.

According to Worcester Public Schools, Rose was selected following a multi-step review process that included parents and community members.

The Chief of Access, Opportunity and Equity position is funded through the district’s fiscal year 2027 budget using funding associated with a vacant administrative position, according to the district.
