Worcester City Council Committee to Hold Public Meeting on Potential City Charter Review

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester residents will have an opportunity Monday to weigh in on a potential review of the City Charter, the document that establishes the basic structure and operation of Worcester’s municipal government.
The City Council’s Municipal and Legislative Operations Standing Committee will hold a public meeting on Monday, August 17, at 5 p.m. in the Esther Howland Chamber at Worcester City Hall, 455 Main St. The City of Worcester has announced that the committee will discuss a review of the charter and would like to hear from residents.
The city has not announced that any particular change to the charter will be adopted at Monday’s meeting. The meeting is focused on discussion of a potential review, and any recommendations or further action will depend on what occurs during the committee process.
What the committee does
The Municipal and Legislative Operations Standing Committee handles matters involving municipal operations and procedures, City Council rules, and state and federal legislation affecting Worcester, among other responsibilities.
For the 2026-2027 City Council term, the committee is chaired by Councilor Satya B. Mitra. Councilors Gary Rosen and Morris A. Bergman also serve on the three-member committee.

Monday’s meeting comes after earlier City Council discussions involving Worcester’s charter.
