WORCESTER, Mass. — A major law enforcement response was underway Monday morning after an incident inside the Worcester County Courthouse prompted its evacuation.
According to multiple sources, the Worcester County Courthouse on Main Street was ordered cleared at around 11:30 a.m. after police were alerted to a situation inside the building.
The Worcester Police Department confirmed the evacuation to Spectrum News 1 Worcester, saying the decision was made in response to an internal incident. WPD further stated that the Massachusetts State Police CPAC (Critical Incident Response) unit has taken over the official investigation.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that authorities appeared to be covering what looked like a body in the courthouse’s main lobby area. The building remained sealed off for much of the afternoon, and nearby streets experienced disrupted traffic as officers secured the perimeter.
As of now, no further details have been released, including the nature of the incident, whether anyone was injured, or whether arrests have been made.
This remains a developing story. What’s Up Worcester is monitoring updates and will publish new information when confirmed by official sources.
