Where are Nayara and Karoline? Worcester Family in Crisis After ICE Detainment

WORCESTER — A heartbreaking story is unfolding in our city, and we think you should know about it.

Months after 40-year-old Worcester resident and Brazilian national Rosane Ferreira de Oliveira was detained by ICE agents, her two teenage daughters—Nayara Ferreira de Moura, 17, and Karoline Ferreira de Moura, 13—have gone missing from state custody.

The girls were under the care of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF) after their mother’s arrest and eventual detainment. Now, they’re gone—and Rosane, still being held at Strafford County Jail in Dover, NH, is left without answers or contact.

Before ICE stepped in, Rosane had been arrested in February for allegedly assaulting a pregnant family member. But here’s the part you don’t often hear: the charges were dropped. Still, she remains in federal custody awaiting her final immigration hearing.

According to her attorney, Juan Congote, Rosane is struggling. She can’t sleep. She’s devastated. She came to the U.S. in 2022 seeking asylum and safety—something so many immigrants come to Worcester hoping to find.

Instead, she’s sitting behind bars while her daughters are missing.

This situation raises serious questions: What’s happening in our immigration and child welfare systems? How are families being protected? And what steps are being taken to find Nayara and Karoline?
