One stolen truck. Multiple crashes. A police cruiser was hit. And a Worcester man is now facing serious charges.
WORCESTER, MA— A Worcester man is in hot water after allegedly stealing a pickup truck and leading police on a reckless chase through Tewksbury this past Sunday, June 23.
According to Tewksbury Police, it all started just after 1:20 p.m. when they got a call about a stolen white Ford F250 parked at the Petroil Gas Station on Main Street. The truck, which was carrying two big PVC poles, had reportedly just been taken.
Officers tried to stop the truck near Shawsheen Street—but things escalated fast.
The driver, identified as 41-year-old Daniel Riedl of Worcester, allegedly hit a Honda Civic and kept going. Not long after, police say he was involved in another crash—this time with a Kia Sorento.
At that point, due to the reckless and dangerous driving, Tewksbury officers backed off from the pursuit for safety reasons.
But Riedl didn’t stop. He allegedly crashed into a traffic light, reversed into a Tewksbury Police cruiser, and then jumped on Route 495 southbound in the stolen vehicle.
That’s when Massachusetts State Police stepped in and brought the wild ride to an end. Riedl was safely stopped and arrested.
Facing a Long List of Charges
Riedl was scheduled to be arraigned Monday and faces the following charges, according to Tewksbury Police:
- Larceny of a motor vehicle
- Failure to stop for police
- Leaving the scene of property damage (4 counts)
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- Operating with a revoked license
- Marked lanes violation
- Speeding
While no serious injuries were reported, the situation could’ve ended a lot worse. Thankfully, a quick response from local and state police helped prevent further harm.
We’ll keep you posted as this case moves through court.
