In a candid interview with Jerry Filmore, Editor in Chief of What’s Up Worcester, Diana Preston, BSN, RN, and President & CEO of Caring Medical Staffing, LLC, shared her inspirational journey and the driving force behind founding her nurse-owned and nurse-operated staffing agency.

Preston’s career in healthcare began humbly in 2002, starting as direct care staff and later transitioning to roles as a home health aide. Her passion for caregiving led her to become a certified nurse assistant by 2005. Despite the demands of career and family, Preston pursued further education, attending a trade program to become a phlebotomist while working towards her associate’s degree in nursing to achieve RN status.

Balancing career aspirations with family responsibilities, Preston temporarily paused her career to be a stay-at-home mom for two years after the birth of her youngest son. In 2018, driven by a desire for more flexibility and financial security, coupled with her leadership acumen and dedication to healthcare, Preston conceived the idea of starting her own staffing agency.

“It was about recognizing the need for more time with my children, financial security, and flexibility,” Preston explained. She launched Caring Medical Staffing, LLC in 2021 after completing her bachelor’s degree and obtaining her RN license, aiming to expand beyond nursing to encompass various medical professions such as respiratory therapists and radiology techs.

Preston emphasized the agency’s foundation on values of compassion, accountability, and teamwork, driven by her firsthand experience in management and as a floor nurse. “My journey exemplifies resilience, determination, and a commitment to excellence in healthcare,” Preston noted.

When asked about the mission and values guiding Caring Medical Staffing, Preston outlined a dedication to delivering skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals. “Our mission is to set the standards for improving quality care and service delivery,” she stated, underscoring the agency’s vision to become a premier provider in Massachusetts.

The values at Caring Medical Staffing focus on community, health, empathy, accountability, relationships, and teamwork. These principles shape every aspect of the agency’s operations, ensuring integrity and excellence in healthcare staffing.

Preston detailed several key factors distinguishing Caring Medical Staffing from other agencies in Massachusetts. The agency’s status as nurse-owned and operated provides unique insights into client and employee needs. Certification as a Woman and Minority Owned Enterprise further underscores its commitment to diversity and credibility.

Comprehensive screening processes and personalized client matching ensure high-quality and reliable service. “We prioritize client satisfaction through responsive support and continuous improvement,” Preston emphasized, highlighting the agency’s community engagement and adaptability in meeting evolving healthcare demands.

Regarding recruitment strategies, Preston outlined a meticulous process starting with understanding client needs and developing detailed job descriptions. The agency employs rigorous screening, credential verification, and interviews to select candidates based on clinical competence, licensure, professionalism, and cultural fit.

“We ensure our staff are well-equipped with experience across diverse healthcare settings,” Preston assured. By matching individuals based on their expertise and comfort level, Caring Medical Staffing enhances care quality and client satisfaction.

When asked about the cornerstone of Caring Medical Staffing, LLC, Preston emphasized their commitment to continuous education. She highlighted the agency’s approach:

“Continuous education is indeed a cornerstone of Caring Medical Staffing, LLC, as we recognize the importance of staying updated with the latest developments in healthcare and refining the skills of our employees.”

  • Feedback and Performance Reviews: Regular evaluations to fine-tune educational initiatives based on staff input.

According to Preston, these efforts ensure that Caring Medical Staffing, LLC remains at the forefront of evolving healthcare demands, empowering their team to deliver exceptional care effectively.

Discussing the agency’s relationship-building strategies, Preston highlighted a successful partnership with a large long-term care facility:

“Through consistent communication, personalized service, and a commitment to quality assurance, we have built a strong partnership based on mutual trust and collaboration.”

She further noted their recent collaboration with Holyoke Community College, emphasizing educational outreach and career guidance for aspiring healthcare professionals.

Addressing the evolving healthcare landscape, Preston underscored proactive strategies:

“To ensure our services remain relevant, we prioritize continuous learning, engagement with industry stakeholders, and investment in technology.”

She emphasized the role of data analytics, strategic partnerships, and flexibility in adapting to emerging trends and regulatory shifts.

Preston outlined rigorous measures for maintaining service excellence:

“Comprehensive screening, ongoing training, and client feedback mechanisms are integral to our quality assurance protocols.”

She emphasized adherence to regulatory standards and continuous improvement initiatives to uphold high-quality standards in patient care.

Looking ahead, Preston articulated ambitious goals for Caring Medical Staffing, LLC:

“We aim to expand our service offerings, specialize in high-demand healthcare fields, and leverage technology to enhance operational efficiency.”

She emphasized a commitment to employee satisfaction, community engagement, and adaptation to local healthcare needs as key drivers of future growth.
