Massachusetts Organization of African Descendant (MOAD) will host the Worcester African Festival for the first time this year

A festival celebrating African cultures within Massachusetts and showcasing 54 countries represented in Worcester’s population will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5. The festival is being hosted by the Massachusetts Organization of African Descendant (MOAD), marking their first year hosting this event. Alexis Koduah, a Ghanaian American and MOAD’s administrative advocate, confirmed the festival’s location at the Worcester Common oval and Franklin Street. The festival, which will be free, will run from noon until 6 p.m., with a rain date scheduled for Aug. 12. MOAD, founded in 2020, aims to create a bridge between Africans and the city of Worcester. Around 42 vendors, including a Nigerian food truck offering pastries and Nigerian Jollof rice, will be present. Additionally, African artists will sell their work, a DJ will provide music, and there will be tables for people to meet local African non-profits. MOAD’s website emphasizes their goal of addressing systemic socioeconomic issues impacting the African community.
