Worcester residents using the Libby app for ebooks and audiobooks can now access digital collections from library networks across Massachusetts. By adding partner libraries to their accounts, local cardholders can browse expanded catalogs beyond the immediate Central Western Massachusetts Resource Sharing (CW MARS) network.

The Worcester Public Library, a member of the CW MARS network, allows its patrons to utilize their existing library cards to borrow materials from several other regional systems. This arrangement includes networks in the Boston area, Cape Cod, MetroWest, and the southern regions of the state.

Expanding Digital Access

The Libby app, operated by OverDrive, serves as the primary digital borrowing platform for the Worcester Public Library. While the CW MARS collection serves many local needs, adding partner libraries provides residents with a larger pool of popular titles and recently released items.

According to official library guidance, while the process for placing holds and returning items remains consistent across all networks, individual borrowing policies may vary. Users are encouraged to review the specific loan periods and item limits for each partner network they join.

Available Partner Networks

Worcester Public Library cardholders can currently add several major Massachusetts networks to their Libby accounts, including:

  • Boston Public Library
  • CLAMS (Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing)
  • Merrimack Valley Library Consortium
  • Minuteman Library Network
  • Old Colony Library Network
  • SAILS Library Network

How to Add Partner Libraries

To access these additional collections, users must manually add the partner networks within the Libby app settings. The Worcester Public Library has provided a step-by-step PDF guide to assist residents with this process:

  1. Open the Libby app and tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines).
  2. Select Add Library and search for one of the partner networks listed above.
  3. Once the network is selected, choose Sign In With My Card.
  4. Under the list of providers, select CW MARS as your home network.
  5. Enter your Worcester Public Library card number and PIN.

Once these steps are completed, users can toggle between different library collections within the app to check for availability of specific titles. Residents who require technical assistance with their accounts or the Libby app can contact the Worcester Public Library directly for support.
