WORCESTER, MA – December might bring the cold, but Worcester’s arts community is doing what it always does best — warming up the city with creativity, culture, and real community energy. One of the clearest examples of that creative spirit is the focus on public art and intimate, community-rooted exhibitions that put local talent front and center.
ArtsWorcester’s Small Works 2025
A standout of the season is ArtsWorcester’s Small Works 2025, running through December 14th.
This annual show highlights the heart of Worcester’s artist community.
• Artists submit work 10” x 10” or smaller, creating a colorful, eclectic collection of 193 pieces.
• The exhibition doubles as a fundraiser and marketplace, giving residents a chance to support local creatives directly — and pick up unique, handmade holiday gifts.
• The show features 32 first-time ArtsWorcester exhibitors, making this year a major moment for emerging voices.
Hunchback Gallery’s Art-To-Go Pop-Up
Hunchback Gallery is keeping the momentum going with Off The Wall: An Art-To-Go Holiday Show, open until December 27th.
With 200+ works from over 20 local artists and crafters, everything is no larger than 12 inches, making it perfect for gifting, collecting, or discovering someone new.
The “Art-To-Go” style means once a piece sells, it’s immediately replaced — giving visitors a fresh experience every time and keeping the show constantly evolving.
Public Art and Winter Lights
Beyond the galleries, Worcester continues investing in public art and creative placemaking. The WooBox Art Project may have wrapped earlier this year, but the city didn’t slow down. The annual Festival of Lights kicked off on December 5th at Worcester Common, bringing bright, illuminated installations to the downtown area.
The event turns the Common into a festive, walkable destination — another example of how Worcester keeps art visible, accessible, and part of everyday life.
A Culture Fueled by Community
From Small Works to Hunchback to the glowing installations downtown, Worcester’s arts scene is full of grassroots creativity and local passion.
