Don’t let the unsightly scaffolding deter you from joining in the creepy Halloween fun at Salisbury Mansion. The seasonal shows presented by Preservation Worcester will go on!
On Monday October 27th, Paranormal Investigator and social historian Dr. Jo MacGugan lead audiences in conjuring the spirits of the Mansion’s historical residents. The Salisbury family, who occupied the mansion from 1777-1851 will make their ghostly appearance at 3 spirited sessions at 5, 7, and 9 pm.
On Saturday November 1, All Hallows Ball “a Spirited Affair“, celebrates Salisbury style; conjuring up the memory of elegant galas once held in the same building by Stephen Sailsbury III, state senator and prominant businessman, and a founding member of Worcester Art Museum WAM.
On October 22, Preservation Worcester went on with the show Rural Remains Inside, an indoor version of the popular flashlight tour of Rural Cemetary on 180 Grove St accommodating those with mobility challenges. Volunteer actors, costumed in 18th and 19th century regalia, tell true tales of Worcester’s history.
The house was family occupied for nearly 80 years (1772 to 1851) then rented before becoming part of the city’s museum aggregate. In 1929, WAM moved the mansion from Lincoln Square to it’s current location on Harvard St, once the Salisbury family orchard. The home is now on the state register of historical places and a living museum.
