In a concerning development, several credit card skimmers have been discovered across various Big Y supermarket locations in December. The supermarket chain has swiftly responded, announcing the detection of a skimming device at numerous terminals in different stores.

Big Y disclosed that the skimming devices were found at specific terminals in the following locations: St. James, Springfield, Chicopee, Northampton, Ware, Southbridge, Worcester, Milford, Wilbraham, and Ludlow. According to the company’s statement, the skimmer was clandestinely installed sometime between December 19 and 21, heightening concerns over potential data breaches affecting unsuspecting customers.

Moreover, another skimming device was identified at a terminal within the Westfield location, installed between December 19 and January 12, amplifying worries about the extent of the security breach.

In response to these alarming discoveries, Big Y has assured the public that they are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incidents. The company has also taken swift action by notifying and collaborating with law enforcement agencies to address the issue comprehensively.

“We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, and we notified and are working with law enforcement. We have inspected all of our terminals, and continue to do so,” stated Big Y in their official release. Furthermore, the company emphasized its commitment to customer safety and vowed to promptly inform any individuals whose information may have been compromised during the security breach.

Customers who have concerns or questions regarding this incident are encouraged to reach out to Big Y directly at 1-800-828-2688, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Big Y has assured its customers that they are dedicated to providing assistance and guidance to anyone impacted by these security breaches.

As investigations into the matter continue, authorities and the supermarket chain are urging customers to remain vigilant and to take necessary precautions to safeguard their personal information from potential fraudulent activities.
