Worcester, MA – March 13, 2024

In the heart of Worcester, a culinary revolution is taking place, led by the dynamic Harolyn Castillo, a woman whose journey from Community Outreach Coordinator to the founder of World of Foods Worcester is nothing short of inspiring. In an exclusive interview, Harolyn shared her insights, experiences, and the driving forces behind her entrepreneurial ventures that celebrate diversity, culture, and community engagement.

Harolyn’s journey began at the HeartWell Institute, where she identified the rich culinary tapestry within Worcester’s immigrant community. Recognizing a gap in platforms to showcase these cultural treasures, the spark of entrepreneurship ignited. In 2023, she co-founded World of Foods Worcester with Lisa Dobson, turning Elm Park into a hub of cultural exchange through an annual celebration of global flavors, artisan crafts, and familial fun.

As the CEO of Verde Events MA, Harolyn outlined her successful strategies for event planning and execution. Emphasizing a client-centric approach, problem-solving, and adaptability, she believes that event planning is an art of creativity, organization, and overcoming real-life challenges. With a focus on comprehensive planning and post-event evaluations, Verde Events MA continues to thrive under Harolyn’s leadership.

Harolyn’s diverse career includes roles as a Home Health Nurse and a Membership Services Coordinator at Labo. Her experiences in healthcare have shaped her leadership and decision-making approaches, while her community organizing skills drive business growth and engagement in her current ventures. Conflict resolution, a key skill, is exemplified by her ability to maintain boundaries in community work.

Harolyn’s proficiency in Spanish has played a crucial role in her community outreach and event planning endeavors. She shared instances where being bilingual facilitated inclusive community engagement, cultural sensitivity, and parent involvement.

Managing multiple roles requires a delicate balance, and Harolyn’s strategies involve checklist prioritization, time blocking, setting boundaries, and self-care. Delegation and learning to say “NO” are crucial components of her ongoing challenge to maintain balance.

World of Foods Worcester aims for cultural enrichment, community bonding, economic empowerment, education, and family-friendly fun. Harolyn envisions this event becoming a catalyst for deeper connections, appreciation of diversity, and a shared love for culinary, crafts, and arts. The future holds exciting possibilities for both World of Foods Worcester and Verde Events MA, with dreams of expanding their impact beyond local borders.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Harolyn has life goals centered on continuous learning, empathy, kindness, and supporting others. As a Worcester enthusiast, she shared her favorite hidden gems and must-visit spots, including Cascading Waters, Green Hill Park, and a dream of creating an enormous indoor rollerblading spot. Harolyn also provided insider tips for exploring Worcester like a local, highlighting favorite food spots like Worcester Sweet Cafe, Altea’s, Madulka’s Ice Cream, Main Tacos, and Soho Sushi.

Harolyn Castillo is not just a culinary entrepreneur; she is a leader weaving a tapestry of culture, community, and connection in Worcester and beyond. As she continues on this exciting journey, Harolyn remains dedicated to making a meaningful impact, one delicious bite and community event at a time.
