At least two individuals were killed in a four-alarm fire in Worcester early Saturday, according to Acting Deputy Fire Chief Adam Roche. The fire also injured three other people.
The fire broke out at 2 Gage St., a six-family, triple-decker house, around 3:30 a.m. According to Roche, the house is a total loss, and adjoining structures at 5 Eastern Ave. and 4 Gage St. were also destroyed.
Firefighters were still on the site around 4 p.m. Saturday, putting out hot spots and scouring all three floors of the house.
“I express my heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families,” Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty stated in a statement. “Trembles like this effect so many lives, and our city will undoubtedly come together to support those who have suffered such unimaginable loss.”
No firemen were hurt while combating the fire. The Red Cross is assisting families who have been displaced by the fire.
The Worcester Fire Investigation Unit, the Worcester Police Department, and the Worcester County District Attorney’s office are all looking into the fire.
