WORCESTER — The Worcester Educational Development Foundation is accepting applications for its Spring 2026 Mini-Grant cycle, offering awards of up to $500 to support classroom-based projects in the Worcester Public Schools.
The Spring 2026 round coincides with the Foundation’s 20th anniversary and includes a special “20 for 20” initiative. Through this effort, WEDF plans to award 20 mini-grants during the current cycle, according to information released by the organization.
The Mini-Grant Program is designed to support instructional staff seeking to implement innovative or enriching projects that align with the Foundation’s mission. WEDF reports that projects connecting Worcester Public Schools alumni with current classrooms may receive additional consideration, though this is not a requirement.
Eligibility and Focus Areas
Instructional staff members employed by Worcester Public Schools are eligible to apply. Proposed projects must align with at least one of the Foundation’s four focus areas:
- Arts and Culture
- College and Career Readiness
- Health and Wellness
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Allowable Use of Funds
According to the Foundation, grant funds may be used for instructional and non-instructional materials, transportation and fees for field trips or competitions, and consultant services. Preference is given to trips taking place within Worcester or Worcester County. Funds may not be used for stipends or salaries for Worcester Public Schools personnel.
Application Requirements and Review Process
Applicants are required to submit a proposal of no more than two pages. Each application must be approved or signed by the applicant’s building principal or immediate supervisor and include a line-item budget. Attachments are not permitted.
Proposals must describe the identified learning need, how the project addresses that need, what makes the project unique or engaging, and how outcomes will be evaluated.
WEDF states that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by a review committee while funding remains available. Requests may be submitted through May 1, 2026, with award decisions typically communicated within two weeks of submission.
