Tuesday night, Terence Davis scored a game-high and season-high 31 points off the bench and combined with Kevin Huerter to make 12 of Sacramento’s 20 3-pointers, helping the Kings defeat the visiting Brooklyn Nets 153-121.
After a 3-6 start to the season, Huerter finished with 19 points, followed by Domantas Sabonis (17), Harrison Barnes (16), Malik Monk (15), De’Aaron Fox (14) and Trey Lyles (12). Since 154 were scored in January 1993 against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Kings’ 153 points were their highest total.
The Nets, who opened a three-game California tour with a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, dropped their second straight game and Kevin Durant led the club with a game-high 27 points on 11 free throws. The Kings had a 25-point lead at the half and a 115-82 advantage at the end of the third quarter after defeating the defending champion Golden State Warriors 122-115 at home on Sunday.
In his 31 minutes for the Nets, who were still without suspended Kyrie Irving, Durant was a one-man show. Edmond Sumner, Brooklyn’s closest teammate, was outscored by nine points by Durant, who also had six of the team’s 25 assists and four of its 29 rebounds.
Grizzlies 102, Pelicans 113
As the host New Orleans trounced Memphis, CJ McCollum scored 30 points, while Larry Nance Jr. and Brandon Ingram each added 19 points.
Ja Morant scored a game-high 36 points in his first game back after missing one due to pain in his ankle. In his first game of the year after missing the previous one due to a foot injury, Jaren Jackson Jr. scored seven points (on 3 of 14 shooting, including 0 of 7 from 3-point range) and pulled down six rebounds in 25 minutes. Dillon Brooks added 19 points.
While Zion Williamson, the Pelicans’ leading scorer, was absent due to a bruised foot, Trey Murphy III, Jose Alvarado, and Herbert Jones Jr. each scored 13 points. As the Grizzlies scored four points in the opening six minutes of the fourth quarter, Alvarado and Jones made 3-pointers to assist the Pelicans in extending their advantage to 104-91.
Clippers 101, Mavericks 103
Dallas defeated visiting Los Angeles thanks to Luka Doncic’s 35 points and 11 rebounds, Dorian Finney-21 Smith’s points and seven 3-pointers.
With 4:12 remaining in the game, Nicolas Batum made a 3-pointer to give the visitors an 89-87 lead after the Clippers shot a scorching 23 of 32 (71.9 percent) from the field in the second half.
Within the first three minutes, Los Angeles had the lead. However, in the next 91 seconds, Dallas outscored Los Angeles by six points thanks to three 3-pointers from Reggie Bullock and one each from Finney-Smith. While leading the Clippers in scoring with 23 points, Paul George also had 10 turnovers.
Jazz 111, Knicks 118
In Salt Lake City, Jalen Brunson led New York past Utah with 25 points and eight assists.
As the visitors built a double-digit lead and took over for good in the fourth quarter, Brunson, who signed a four-year deal with New York in the offseason after helping Dallas overcome Utah in the first round of the 2022 playoffs, scored eight straight points for the Knicks.
While Kelly Olynyk led Utah with a season-high 27 points and 11 rebounds, the Jazz struggled from the field (43.4 percent) and lost steam in the fourth quarter. With 2:31 left, the Jazz were within six points after a Jordan Clarkson 3-pointer and two Kelly Olynyk free throws, but Cam Reddish’s two foul shots ended Utah’s final charge.
Spurs 110, Trail Blazers 117
Jerami Grant led Portland past visiting San Antonio with 29 points and 8 rebounds.
Damian Lillard contributed 22 points and 11 assists, while Anfernee Simons added 23 points as Portland won for the 10th time in its first 14 games of the season. As the Trail Blazers defeated San Antonio to end a four-game losing streak, Shaedon Sharpe contributed 13 points off the bench.
The Spurs, who had lost seven of their previous eight games, were led by Jakob Poeltl’s 31 points and 14 rebounds. Keldon Johnson scored 20 points, and Devin Vassell scored 21.
