Just outside the city, on Route 20 in Auburn, WUW found a hidden culinary gem.
Three of our What’s Up Worcester team members had a hankering for sushi on a Wednesday night. Google suggested Bar One & Sushi. It was packed on a Wednesday night leading us to believe it is a local favorite for high quality sushi and fairly priced cocktails (which pack a tropical punch!)

- Nigiri: A slice of fish or other topping pressed onto a small bed of seasoned rice.
- Maki: Rice and fillings rolled inside a sheet of seaweed (nori) and sliced into pieces.
- Sashimi: Sliced raw fish served without rice.
- Chirashi: A bowl of sushi rice topped with a variety of ingredients.
- Inari: A pocket of fried tofu stuffed with sushi rice.
- Oshizushi: Sushi rice and other ingredients pressed into a box or mold.
Their 8-page menu offers all our favorite sushi choices, perfectly rolled makimono, fresh nigiri, an expansive Chinese selection, and a very affordable lunch menu $10.25-$15.75. The dinner portions are hearty, so diners should plan to bring home leftovers.

AMBIENCE: ☑️ Casual, comfy
We were welcomed enthusiacally though it was only a half hour before kitchen closing. We were told to sit anywhere, so we chose a high top. Our server AJ was great. We solicited recommendations and he was spot on. Our food came quickly and was presented beautifully. Though it was close to closing time in the kitchen, we were not rushed. The bar and restaurant were packed but the high ceilings and tops and calm lighting likely made it feel uncrowded.
VALUE: : ☑️ Dinner for 3 under $100!
Here’s what we ordered:
- 3 adult beverages and one bottomless soda
- 3 makimono: the Worcester Roll, caterpillar roll, and Fantastic roll
- Crab rangoons
- Tuna Sashimi
- Seaweed Salad !!!

LOCATION: ☑️ Accessible, Free parking
The restaurant is in a quiet plaza, ten minutes by car from the Southwest Cutoff. ( Note: It is easy to miss, so look for Paintball Store. ) There is ample parking in the free lot and the restaurant entrance is easily accessible for those with mobility needs.
What’s Up Worcester staff had a relaxed, fresh and delicious meal at an afforadble cost at One Bar Sushi. Though outside the city, we think it is worth the trip.
