In a noteworthy turn of events during a routine traffic stop in Worcester, local police uncovered an illegal handgun, leading to the arrest of a 32-year-old motorist this Monday morning.

The Worcester Police, operating as part of the city’s Shooting Response Team, were on patrol near Front Street when they observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation by making an unlawful left turn, according to a Worcester police report.

The driver, identified as Kevin Jean from Auburn, caught the attention of officers, prompting them to call for backup before approaching the Mercedes.

Jean’s failure to produce a license or registration, coupled with suspicious movements towards the glove box, prompted the officer to wait for additional units, as per the Worcester Police Department’s press release.

Upon backup’s arrival, officers instructed Jean to exit the vehicle, which was met with initial resistance and arguments before Jean complied and was removed from his car.

During the inspection, police found an open bottle of vodka and a loaded handgun inside the Mercedes. Jean, lacking a valid firearms license, was promptly arrested and is now facing multiple charges, including Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm and Ammunition without an FID Card. The list of charges also involves Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol, highlighting a disregard for Massachusetts gun and alcohol laws.

This incident emphasizes the Worcester Police Department’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring community safety. Their swift actions during this routine stop demonstrate their dedication to upholding public safety standards in Worcester.
