Worcester Police Arrest Suspect in Daytime Burglary on Belmont Street

Worcester, MA – On October 14th, 2024, Worcester Police officers responded to a breaking and entering in progress on Belmont Street. Upon arrival, officers were shown surveillance footage capturing a male suspect opening a window and climbing through it. The footage showed the individual stealing a laptop and a purse from the property.

The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Rafael Gonzalez, was spotted riding a bicycle on Shrewsbury Street. When officers attempted to approach him, Gonzalez accelerated, weaving in and out of traffic. As officers pursued him, they observed him discarding a backpack along the way.

Officers eventually apprehended Gonzalez and placed him under arrest. After recovering the discarded backpack, police found the stolen laptop and a set of bolt cutters inside. However, the stolen purse was not recovered.

Gonzalez now faces multiple charges, including Breaking and Entering in the Daytime to Commit a Felony, Larceny from a Building, Possession of Burglarious Instruments, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.
