Students at Assumption University are facing serious charges after a social media challenge went wrong. According to an article published by NBC, students allegedly lured a man to campus through Tinder and accused him of being a sexual predator without evidence.

The students, who reportedly organized a scheme to confront the man, assembled a mob of nearly 30 students who then chased and assaulted him. There is no evidence to support that the victim did anything wrong. He (the man) was planning to meet with a girl who stated she was 17 years old in conversation with him via Tinder; however, the girl’s profile stated she was 18 years old.

Assumption University has made a statement that they in no way condone the behavior of the students involved and that their behavior is antithetical to the university’s mission and values. They have emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment.

The students involved are set to be arraigned on January 16th.

This incident highlights the dangers of social media and the importance of using judgment and acting responsibly. The charges against the students include kidnapping, conspiracy, witness intimidation, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The potential consequences are severe, with kidnapping carrying a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
