Sarai Rivera of Worcester District 4 will not run for reelection.
Sarai Rivera, of Worcester District 4, has announced that she will not seek re-election to a seventh term. Rivera’s choice was influenced by the desire for privacy for her and her husband to spend time with family and process the loss of their son, Zacarias Ortiz, who died in a pedestrian accident on Christmas Day in 2020. Rivera intends to work to honor him both in Worcester and in his birthplace of Guatemala, and as the project grows, her family will need to devote more time to it.
Rivera is not the first councilor to announce that they will not run for reelection. District 1 Councilor Sean Rose announced in early December that he would not seek re-election to a fourth term.
