Prosecutors say Dashaun Stokes-Sims knew the Worcester bus driver he’s suspected of cutting with a knife.
Dashaun Stokes-Sims, 28, was arrested last week on suspicion of stabbing a Worcester Regional Transit Authority bus driver.
In Worcester District Court, Stokes-Sims was charged with armed assault with the intent to murder, mayhem, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily harm. He is being detained in custody until Friday’s possibly dangerous hearing.
The bus was stopped in front of Denny’s Restaurant on Lincoln Street at approximately 2:40 p.m. Wednesday when the event occurred. Witnesses witnessed a man jump onto the bus, say something to the driver, and then “slashed” him in the face with a knife, according to Assistant District Attorney Dannon Stacer.
According to Stacer, security footage of the suspect interacting with an employee at a nearby business was obtained. The employee recognized Stokes-Sims, with whom she had previously had contact. He was arrested on Friday.
According to Stacer, Stokes-Sims knew the bus driver, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and received approximately 100 stitches.
