Get to Know YOUR Worcester Railers: Opening Night Block Party & Community Spotlight

Opening Night Oct. 18: True Woo-town Block Party This Saturday!
Get tickets here starting at $19.25 through Ticketmaster. Opening Night sponsored by M&T Bank.
Downtown will be bustling this Saturday when the Worcester Railers kick off the 2025-26 hockey season, facing off with the Maine Mariners at the DCU Center. Puck drop is at 6:05, but Worcester is getting a hat trick: Pre-game festivities, concourse and intermission entertainment, and of course, an exhilarating battle on the ice. True Wormtown grit and glory are to be expected.
The Block Party Starts at 4 PM
The fun begins outside Off the Rails (Live Music & BBQ) with their Opening Night Block Party from 4 to 6 PM, presented by BeatBox! Beverages. Opportunities to meet Railers players and cheer team, live music, kids activities, food and beverage vendors, and visits from the WooSox and Bravehearts will make for an exciting opening night in Downtown Worcester for fans and visitors alike. Mascot TRAX, the railroad dog, is sure to make an appearance.
Over at the DCU Center, the doors open at 5:05 on a lively concourse, with all ticketholders receiving free Light Up Sticks from Beatbox. Face off is at 6:05. At both intermissions, the crowd will get hyped up by The Railers Cheer Team, a talented group of athletes who audition in August and train extensively for their role on the squad.
Special Intermission Performance
A special performance by award-winning beat boxer and loop artist NaPom will add extra hype at intermission. Known for his unique “lip roll” and so-named album “Lips,” he has blown up the beat box world for over a decade. Check out his extensive career here: NaPoM

Meet Deke: The Furry New Team Member
AND an exciting furry new addition to the team will make his first public appearance at Opening Night! In September, the “Railers Month of Giving”, the organization signed a future service dog to be trained onsite at the Railers office and began a social media “name the pup” campaign. Popular voters dubbed him “Deke,” a term for a hockey move in which a player fakes to move an opponent out of position.

In partnership with America’s VetDogs, a national non-profit that provides service dogs to veterans and first responders with disabilities free of charge, Deke will be traded to a first responder or vet in need. There is no faking this pup will be fit for play!
Get to Know YOUR Team: Worcester Railers Are the Community
Professional sports teams bring exciting opportunities to their host communities. The Worcester Railers Hockey Club introduced a new interest in hockey and a thrilling event to the DCU Center in 2017, following its founding in 2016. The Railers joined the ECHL as a minor league affiliate of the NHL New York Islanders, and hit the ice for their inaugural season in 2017–18. They qualified for the playoffs with a record of 37-27.
They have yet to clinch a postseason game; however, there is no lack of talent on the Railers. Four players have played in the NHL and in Worcester: Tristan Lennon, Jakub Skarek, Arnaud Durandeau, and Ken Appleby.

True Worcester Institution
Despite affiliation with the NHL New York Islanders, the Railers are a true Worcester institution, aiming to bring affordable family fun to downtown Worcester. They have brought business, hockey, and people to the city. Their blue and gray logo and branding are a nod to the city of Worcester’s industrial heritage and hardworking spirit.

Head Coach and general manager Nick Tuzzolino, a former ECHL player and seasoned coach, has built a roster around action, grit, character, and productivity. He is invested in the sport, the league, player development, and a hockey culture that models community first and interaction with the City of Worcester. Listen to his own words on @RailersHC on YouTube.
This 2025-26 season, the Railers welcome Assistant Coach Chris Rumble for his first season in professional coaching, after years on the ice as a player and referee.
More Than Just Hockey
A Worcester Railers game is an all-in community event that ignites hometown spirit with gritty professional hockey play, performances by the elite Railers Cheer team, photo ops with TRAX, and themes and events that not only entertain but also benefit residents. For example, Kids’ tickets are $10 for the October 31 night game, and the DCU Center will transform into a Halloween main event, with trick or treating around the concourse and a costume contest!

Community Commitment Runs Deep
The Railers don’t stop there when it comes to engaging with Worcester County residents. The non-profit Railers HC Organization is deeply involved with Central Mass charitable organizations and youth enrichment. The Railers are exemplary of the word community.
The Railers HC Organization is committed to supporting youth and families throughout the Greater Worcester Region. Youngsters have an opportunity to learn to skate for free with the Skate to Success Program or join the Junior Railers Hockey Club. Their lively mascot, TRAX, has made over 1,275 appearances at schools, hospitals, festivals, fundraisers, and more, and can be specially requested through their website.
The organization has partnerships with hosts of local businesses and foundations, including Polar, Hanover Insurance, Table Talk, and UMass Memorial Health.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
According to their website, Worcester Railers HC Organization has donated more than $1.56 million in cash to the betterment of the community since 2016. A unique, robust staff donation program put $20,000 into local non-profits in 2024, reported Radio Worcester’s Hank Stolz, and each full-time staff member was given a day off to volunteer in the community.
Even their official apparel collection offers an opportunity to support causes with the purchase of Hockey Fights Cancer and Military Appreciation items available at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center, 112 Harding St., Worcester, MA 01604, and online, as well as at games.
Ready for the Season
It is a great time for the community of Worcester to unite, and the Railers Hockey Club knows how to have fun and “do good” at the same time. Whether you are an avid hockey fan or a newbie, want to impress your date, love a good chirp session, or want to get your family out on the town, a Railers game is the place to be this fall.
Worcester Railers Opening Night, October 18, 2025, is going to score big with a perfect trifecta of game night entertainment.
