Etel Haxhiaj seeks answers for the displaced tenants at 267 Mill St in Worcester, MA
After the roof of the 32-unit apartment building at 267 Mill St. collapsed more than 100 tenants had to be removed. There were no reported injuries from the incident. A contractor appears to have been working on the roof when the partial collapse occurred.
Families are receiving support from a United Way fundraiser, helping them pay for their hotel stays and giving them gift cards for food and clothing. On Tuesdays, Worcester’s emergency management division hosts a resource recovery center at the DCU Center to assist locals in finding resources.
According to Emergency Management Director Charles Goodwin, it is thought that the weight of the materials—stone and foam insulation—that the contractor placed on the roof caused the partial collapse. The Department of Inspectional Services of the city is still investigating the precise cause, though.
After the owners of the apartment building took the renters to court to request entrance into the building, the tenants and the owners became embroiled in court procedures.
Haxhiaj requested information from the city manager’s office on which departments are in charge of carrying out any procedures activated in the event of a mass disaster and what general laws/regulations are observed; fines, penalties, or liens placed on the owner of a condemned property; a list of the expenses the city is seeking reimbursement for in the cases of both the Gage Street and Mill Street catastrophes with an explanation of the procedure for recouping expenses.

It is commonly seen among individuals in the structure industry who have long contact with asbestos. It is caused by residing in asbestos covered buildings for a long time of time, Inherited genes plays an important role, and some people are more vulnerable for the risk compared to others.
