What’s Up Worcester, January 13, 2024

In an unexpected turn of events, a routine traffic stop became a hazardous situation for Shrewsbury Police Officer Tim Charland on the Boston Turnpike. The incident occurred at 9:15 p.m. on January 12, when a Chevy Malibu collided with Officer Charland’s parked cruiser, causing significant damage and leaving both the officer and the Malibu’s driver with minor injuries.

According to CBS Boston, Officer Charland had just completed a traffic stop and was inside his cruiser when the collision took place. The cruiser, marked by its engaged blue lights and stationary on the side of the road, suffered extensive damage to its left side and rear tire. The impact rendered the cruiser inoperable, and both individuals involved were swiftly transported to UMASS Memorial for treatment. Fortunately, they were later released after receiving medical attention.

In the midst of the vehicular chaos, authorities revealed the arrest of a passenger in the Chevy Malibu. The passenger was identified as 24-year-old Christian George of Worcester, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for destruction of property from the Milford District Court. Details from a Community Advocate press release shed light on the arrest, raising questions about the circumstances leading to the crash.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s Crash Reconstruction team taking charge to unravel the details. While the Shrewsbury police, in collaboration with the reconstruction team, are diligently working on the case, no information about the identity of the driver involved or potential charges has been released at this time.

The community awaits further updates as authorities continue their efforts to piece together the events surrounding this unexpected and hazardous traffic incident on the Boston Turnpike.
